Since its inception, Anime Boston has worked tirelessly to make the convention one that welcomes cosplayers from all walks of life. And, even in 2004, stepping into the event felt like one was wandering into an alternate universe, where beloved icons like Monkey D. Luffy and Robin Sena chatted and milled about the Park Plaza and the Castle, which hosted Artist’s Alley and the Dealer’s Room.
In the years that followed, Anime Boston kept that tradition alive, as they’ve welcomed countless cosplayers each year, and turned the top floor of the Hynes into a veritable stage for photo shoots. Dioramas of various scenes line the way, and it’s hard not to notice a spontaneous photo session breaking out when one passes through. The Masquerade, meanwhile, attracts the best and brightest talents on the East Coast year after year.
Indeed, one could argue that saying cosplay is important to Anime Boston is a gross understatement. The convention wouldn’t be the same without cosplayers, and their work helps to make the show genuinely special year after year. This rang as true as ever this May, as countless cosplayers returned to the Hynes once more. Their costumes represented the entire spectrum of fandom, from popular shows like Delicious In Dungeon, to fan-favorite video games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
I’d like to extend my deepest thanks to everybody we featured in this segment. You’re all amazing, and Anime Boston wouldn’t be the same without you.
