The first key visual for Rent-A-Girlfriend‘s upcoming fifth season has dropped, depicting Chizuru and Mami staring down each other at the pool. The line of text between them teases, “Now, the moment of destiny —.”
It was also revealed that the anime will begin airing in April.
Rent-A-Girlfriend adapts the romantic comedy manga by Reiji Miyajima, which has been running since in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since 2017. Kodansha USA describes the manga as such:
In today’s Japan, “rental” services can deliver an afternoon with a “friend,” a “parent,” even a fake girlfriend! After a staggering betrayal by his girlfriend, hapless freshman Kazuya gets just desperate enough to give it a try. But he quickly discovers how complicated it can be to “rent” an emotional connection, and his new “girlfriend,” who’s trying to keep her side hustle secret, will panic when she finds out her real life and Kazuya’s are intertwined in surprising ways! Family, school, and life all start to go wrong, too… It’s sweet but naïve boy meets cute but ruthless girl in this 21st-century manga rom-com!
The anime first began in July 2020. Season 4 aired during the Summer 2025 anime season.
The Rent-A-Girlfriend manga has been collected into 43 volumes as of November 2025. It has also inspired a spin-off titled Kanojo, Hitomishirimasu, a 2022 live-action drama, and a visual novel.
