Good afternoon, everyone.
I’m excited to let you know that, as of Tuesday, all articles for Anime Herald Magazine’s first issue are complete and layout design is well underway. November is quickly approaching, and we’re all doing our best to bring you the highest-quality publication possible. Katy Castillo is currently hard at work on designing layouts, while the rest of the team helps to compile the remaining outstanding odds and ends.
Today, though, I have a couple of surprises to share with you. Yesterday, we received the near-final logo and cover designs for the publication from Katy, and I am eager to share both of them with you.
Before the reveal, though, I’d like to announce that we’ll be adding a free bonus for folks who order the first issue through the Anime Herald Popup Shop. As many of you know, one of the features in this issue is an interview with anime scholar Helen McCarthy. For print, pieces like this are often edited for length and clarity, to fit within page limits. The conversation I had with McCarthy ran for nineteen pages, and roughly nine thousand words, well beyond the budgeted 3,000. However, I didn’t want to omit two thirds of the interview, as it was a fascinating conversation. That’s why, as a bonus, we’ll be including a PDF of the full transcript for anybody who purchases the issue through our store, free of charge.
The Logo
The logo for Anime Herald Magazine offers a cleaner, more streamlined look, which remains uniquely “us,” while having its own identity for the print side of things. It uses our house fonts for the marquee, but it removes a lot of the visual noise, which will allow us to use it in more situations and against different backdrops.

The Cover
The cover, itself, brings a new dimension to José Salot’s artwork by having Hera step beyond the borders of the canvas, and into the cover itself. It retains his gorgeous character and background work, while presenting a whimsical side that lends a lot of character to the scene. In a fun homage to fandom magazines of the past, a faux paper tag announcing that this is our first issue is at the top-left corner of the frame.

We know that you’re putting a lot of faith in us, and I sincerely hope that you’re all looking forward to the first issue’s launch in a few short weeks. We’ll be giving it our all to deliver a publication that we can be proud of, and that you will be proud to own, as we enter this final push toward launch day.
You can order the first issue of Anime Herald Magazine at The Official Anime Herald Popup Shop.
