The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 will begin airing in July 2026. A teaser trailer was also released with the announcement.
Additionally, there are character design sheets showing some existing characters in their younger days as well as newcomers Scarlet and Mia.
The Detective Is Already Dead‘s first season aired in 2021. The anime is based on the KADOKAWA-published light novel series written by Nigojuu and illustrated by Umibouzu, which Yen Press describes as such:
Kimitsuka Kimihiko was the assistant to a beautiful detective named Siesta — until Siesta died, anyway. Now, Kimitsuka has encountered a girl who bears an uncanny resemblance to his former boss…
The light novel series began in 2019 and won the 15th MF Bunko J Light Novel Rookie of the Year award that year. There are 13 volumes as of July 2025. The books have also inspired a manga as well as spin-offs in both manga and light novel form.
