CyberAgent has announced that The Summer Hikaru Died TV anime series is now available on Netflix with 10 different dubbed languages.
The new dubbed versions of the show include English, Spanish (Latin America), Thai, Portuguese (Brazil), French, German, Italian, Spanish (Spain), Hindi, and Indonesian.
In addition, a promotional trailer featuring the English-language dub of The Summer Hikaru Died has also been released.
A second season of the anime was announced at the end of September after the conclusion of season one. The first season aired for 12 episodes from July 2025 to September 2025 during the Summer 2025 anime season. Netflix streamed the show worldwide in several countries and territories.
Ryohei Takeshita (Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night and Eromanga Sensei) directed the first season and served as its series composer, with Yuichi Takahashi (Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song- and Mononoke The Movie: The Phantom in the Rain character designer) as character designer. CygamesPictures handled the animation production studio.
Other staff for season one included Masanobu Hiraoka (Chainsaw Man Ending 9 storyboard artist, unit director, animator, and editor) as Dorodoro animator, Kohei Honda (Akiba Maid War) as background art director, Naomi Nakano (Solo Leveling) as color designer, and Tomohiro Maeda (Granblue Fantasy 10th anniversary movie) as composting director.
Meanwhile, the anime’s Japanese voice cast includes:

- • Shuichiro Umeda as Hikaru Indo
- • Yumiri Hanamori as Asako Yamagishi
- • Wakana Kowaka as Rie Kurebayashi

- • Shion Wakayama as Yuki Tadakoro
The anime is based on the horror slice of life manga series by Mokumokuren was first serialized on Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace Up website on August 31, 2021 and has released seven tankobon volumes as of July 2025. An eighth volume will be released in Japan on December 27, 2025.
A novelization of the manga series was published by Kadokawa Shoten in December 2023. A stage play adaptation will also run in Japan this coming January 2026.

Yen Press licensed the manga for English release, as well as the novel, and describes the main premise as:
It has Hikaru’s face. It has Hikaru’s voice. It even has Hikaru’s memories. But whatever came down from the mountains six months ago isn’t Yoshiki’s best friend. Whatever it is, it’s dangerous. Carrying on at school and hanging out as if nothing has changed—as if Hikaru isn’t gone—would be crazy…but when it looks so very like Hikaru…and acts so very like Hikaru…
