Animator Nakaya Onsen’s Phenomenon X Manga Picked Up by Seven Seas, Volume 1 Out in October 2026

Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed animator Nakaya Onsen‘s Phenomenon X: Paranormal Crime Files (Gensho X: Chojo Gensho Sosaroku) manga and will release the first volume in October 2026. The title is one of multiple recently announced acquisitions.

Onsen previously revealed in August that he had accepted an offer to have the manga, which began serialization in KADOKAWA’s Harta magazine in October 2024 and released its first volume in June 2025, published in English. “In my anime work, I often handle action animation, but my manga contains no action elements at all — it’s a quiet detective story. I hope you’ll enjoy seeing a different side of me from the style you’re used to in my anime work,” he also said.

Here’s Seven Seas’ description of Phenomenon X‘ premise:

Two agents with nothing in common will have to trust in their skepticism and each other to solve a string of unbelievable cases. A supernatural crime drama featuring an unlikely pair and the bizarre cases they must solve!

Something phenomenal is stirring—and a mismatched duo must uncover the truth hidden beneath the bizarre.

Fires that ignite without cause. A mummy wandering through a quiet neighborhood. Sunflowers blooming in the dead of winter. Each case defies reason, yet together they point to something far more dangerous.

Anan, a cat-eared demi-human detective, is used to mundane cases—until she’s suddenly partnered with Kanai, a federal agent with spiked hair, dark shades, and secrets of his own. Together, they’re drawn into a series of investigations that blur the line between the criminal and the supernatural!

Seven Seas has Phenomenon X: Paranormal Crime Files’ first volume priced at US$13.99/CA$17.99. The series will also get Ebook editions.

Onsen has contributed animation to anime like Jujutsu KaisenFate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: BabyloniaMob Psycho 100 Season 2, and The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls. He has also taken on non-animation roles, with credits for those including:
