Netflix and Twin Engine have unveiled Cosmic Princess Kaguya! (Cho Kaguya-hime!), an upcoming music entertainment-themed feature anime inspired by the titular folklore character and set for a January 22, 2026 release on Netflix. It marks the feature-length directorial debut of Shingo Yamashita (Pokétoon chief director, opening storyboard artist and director for Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, and more) and features the involvement of vocaloid-related names like 40mP, HoneyWorks, and ryo (supercell).
Netflix says that the anime will tell “the tale of two girls who bond through song. In the dream-filled virtual realm of Tsukuyomi, their destined moment takes center stage in dazzling visual splendor.” Yuko Natsuyoshi is voicing Kaguya, the sole focus of the teaser visual below, with other main cast members including Anna Nagase as Iroha Sakayori (the girl with animal ears and tail) and Saori Hayami as Yachiyo Tsukimi (the twin-tailed administrator of Tsukuyomi).
The character designs of Cosmic Princess Kaguya! come from illustrator hechima and Akihiro Nagae (Drifting Home). Studio Colorido is sharing animation production credits with Studio Chromato, the Yamashita-led studio whose existence was announced by Twin Engine in 2024.
As for the songs, aside from the previously mentioned names, you can expect contributions from yuigot/Aqu3ra, and kz(livetune).
Get a brief preview of the visuals and the character designs with the special trailer, which also features ryo’s Hatsune Miku song “World is Mine,” below. January can’t come soon enough.
