Jujutsu Kaisen is based on the manga series by Gege Akutami, which was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from March 5, 2018 to September 30, 2024. Thirty total tankobon volumes were released in Japan. A short spinoff sequel manga titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was released in the same magazine on September 8, 2025, with Akutami serving as writer and Yuji Iwasaki as the artist.
The four-chapter predecessor manga, now known as Jujutsu Kaisen 0, was released in 2017 and adapted into a 2021 anime film of the same name.
Viz Media releases the manga series in English and describes the main premise as:
Although Yuji Itadori looks like your average teenager, his immense physical strength is something to behold! Every sports club wants him to join, but Itadori would rather hang out with the school outcasts in the Occult Research Club. One day, the club manages to get their hands on a sealed cursed object. Little do they know the terror they’ll unleash when they break the seal…
