The creditless opening animation sequence for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 has been released on the TOHO animation YouTube channel.
The opening provides a slick and well-animated experience, with several artwork-like cuts mixed in. The series’ current director Shota Goshozono storyboarded the sequence and co-unit directed it with Takeru Sato (ZOMBIE LAND SAGA: Yumeginga Paradise director), one of Season 3’s assistant directors.
The opening theme song is “AIZO” by King Gnu.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 began its broadcast on January 8 (effectively January 9 at 12:26 AM JST). Crunchyroll is streaming it worldwide outside of Asia. The new season of the supernatural action anime is set in the aftermath of Season 2’s Shibuya Incident and sees the protagonists dealing with the new state of the Jujutsu world and the start of the Culling Game.
Jujutsu Kaisen adapts the manga by Gege Akutami, where Jujutsu Sorcerers battle Cursed Spirits in modern-day Japan. Season 1 ran from late 2020 to early 2021 with 24 episodes and was followed by December 2021’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel movie (based on the manga’s four-chapter predecessor). Season 2 aired from July to December 2023, with the latter “Shibuya Incident Arc” starting a few weeks after the initial “Hidden Inventory Arc. 2025 saw the release of Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, a compilation film that also previewed the first two episodes of the current season.
The Jujutsu Kaisen manga began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018 and ended in 2024. A sequel titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo started this year.
