World Trigger is based on the Shueisha-published action manga by Daisuke Ashihara, in which Earth battles against monsters called Neighbors. It previously inspired three seasons, with the 2014 first season having the longest episode count at 73 (the latter two had 12 and 14 episodes). Season 3 premiered in 2021 with a staff lineup that included returning Season 2 names Morio Hatano (series director), Hiroyuki Yoshino (series composer), Toshihisa Kaiya (character designer and chief animation director), Rumiko Nagai (color designer), and Kenji Kawai (music composer). Toei Animation served as the animation production company.

The cast included Tomo Muranaka as Yūma Kuga, Yuki Kaji as Osamu Mikumo, Nao Tamura as Chika Amatori, Yuichi Nakamura as Yūichi Jin, and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hyuse.

There is a slot for World Trigger at Jump Festa 2026’s Jump Super Stage, so more details are likely to be revealed then.

The manga began in 2013 in Weekly Shonen Jump (it moved to Jump Square in 2918) and has 28 volumes as of February 2025. MANGA Plus describes the synopsis as such:

Earth is under constant threat from Neighbors, invincible monsters from another dimension that destroy our way of life. At least we have the elite warriors of Border, who co-opt alien technology to fight back! Our hero Osamu Mikumo may not be the best agent, but he’ll do whatever it takes to defend life on Earth as we know it. When Osamu meets a feisty humanoid Neighbor named Yuma, everything that he thinks is right is turned on its head. Can the two natural enemies ever become friends?
