The “Dark Bishoujo Action” Cry game series from entertainment company FuRyu is getting a third entry, titled Crymelight. The game is an Alice in Wonderland-inspired title with “Hades-esque roguelike action,” and it’ll be out on November 5 on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, priced at US$19.99.
“Following the events of 2019’s CRYSTAR and 2023’s CRYMACHINA, CRYMELIGHT follows a young girl known only as ‘Alice’ after she wakes up with no memories of her past and discovers she must journey to the lowest layer of Purgatory to earn her ‘Rebirth,’” says the press release. “Alice must set out from the Tea Party Hall, defeat enemies born from the depths of madness, and confess and confront the sins she has committed, undergoing immense emotional growth in the process.”
The Wonderland of Crymelight is a prison for souls, while the Tea Party is imagined as a “sanctuary offering respite to young girls burdened by their sins.” The latter allows Alice to “confess and atone for sins accumulated during combat, allowing her to acquire enhancement items and power-ups.”
Combat will be influenced by a “poker-style” card system, where Skill Cards are obtained between stages and the chosen hand combination will create effects that influence the player’s performance. In battle, killing enemies will also boost abilities and increase movement through the resulting spread of a space called the “Wonder Dimension.”
Another highlighted gameplay feature is the ability to switch between a side-scrolling view and a overhead camera. You can also converse with other characters via tea parties.
Sayaka Sembongi is the voice of Alice, while other cast members include:
• Hitomi Sekine as Mary
• Yukina Shuto as Cheshire
• Nao Ojika as Mad
• Yurina Amami as March
• Yu Sasahara as White Rabbit
The game’s staff includes Naoki Hisaya (Kanon planner and co-writer, Crystar writer, Crymachina scenario supervisor) as plot and story supervisor, Sakuzyo (Cry series) as composer, and YOGISYA as character designer. Animator Riri Yamashita (Crymachina opening animation) is also involved, presumably as the opening animation’s director/animator.
