DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, along with Sola Entertainment, are developing a new Joker-themed original anime series titled Joker: Laugh Riot. A release date was not confirmed, as of the time of writing.
Joker: Laugh Riot was one of three animated shows that were announced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation today at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The other two series were a CG animated adaptation of Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman comic series and an untitled Krypto animated series.
The Joker: Laugh Riot anime series will be directed by Yasuhuro Aoki (ChaO anime film director) and executive produced by Jim Krieg.
Deadline provided the official logline of Joker: Laugh Riot, which describes the series as:
When Batman is murdered, the Joker launches a ruthless crusade through Gotham’s underworld to find the killer who took away his greatest adversary. But as his violent quest for answers pushes him closer towards vigilante than villain, Joker is forced to confront the truth that without Batman, he doesn’t know who he is.
A previous DC Comics-themed original anime series titled Suicide Squad Isekai aired for a total of 10 episodes from June 2024 to August 2024. WIT Studio was in charge of the animation production.
