New cast info for the Magic Knight Rayearth remake reveal that Saori Hayami is voicing Emeraude. Also cast are Yuki Ono as Zagato and Mika Kikuchi as Mokona.
Magic Knight Rayearth is based on the manga by CLAMP. The premise sees teenage girls Hikaru, Umi, and Fu getting summoned to the world of Cefiro/Cephiro during a trip to Tokyo Tower, where they become Magic Knights.
There was a previous Magic Knight Rayearth TV anime, which ran from 1994 to 1995 with 49 episodes. It was directed by Toshiki Hirano (Baki Hanma) with character designs from Atsuko Ishida (Shin Hakkenden), and credited Yomiuri TV and Tokyo Movie Shinsha (now TMS Entertainment) with the production. Aside from the TV anime, there was also an OVA.
The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s shojo magazine Nakayoshi starting in 1993 and had a follow-up titled Magic Knight Rayearth 2. Kodansha USA describes its synopsis as such:
While on a field trip to Tokyo Tower, three teenage girls cross a magical portal and are transported to another world called Cefiro. There they are summoned through the last remaining strength of the Princess Emeraude, who believes the trio will become the magic knights who will save her, as prophesied by legend.
