Four new voice cast members have been revealed for the upcoming Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You TV anime series, as well as an early streaming on the Japanese streaming service ABEMA. The anime is scheduled to begin broadcasting on Japanese television in July 2026.
The latest cast members (from left to right below) include:
- • Toa Yukinari as Goto
- • Megumi Toyoguchi as Ono
- • Rikuya Yasuda as Obata
- • Yoko Hikasa as Maezawa
They join a previously announced voice cast that consists of Takuya Sato as Sasaki, Seena Hoshiki as Yamada/Tamaya, and Shinya Takahashi as Suzuki.
ABEMA will stream all 12 episodes of the anime series at once for premium members, starting on June 3, 2026, ahead of its TV broadcast in Japan.
A new key visual featuring some of the show’s core characters has also been unveiled.
Masato Suzuki (Gushing Over Magical Girls, the upcoming Dara-san of Reiwa) and Aoi Mori are directing the anime, with Mio Inoue (My Awkward Senpai) as series composer and Yasuka Otaki (Gushing Over Magical Girls) as character designer. Asahi Production is in charge of the animation production.
The slice of life romantic comedy manga started as a Twitter webcomic by Jinushi on March 9, 2022, before beginning serialization in Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine on August 25, 2022. Eight tankobon volumes have been published in Japan as of January 2026. Square Enix Manga & Books licensed the manga for English print release, while Manga UP! Global releases it digitally on its service.
Crunchyroll licensed the Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You anime for streaming in several countries and territories worldwide.
Square Enix Manga & Books describes the main premise of the manga’s first volume as:
At age forty-five, office worker Sasaki has had enough of the corporate grind. His only solace is smoking-and the friendly smile of supermarket cashier Yamada. When Sasaki can’t find Yamada after a particularly trying day, a striking woman invites him to smoke with her. The despondent man thinks he’s made a new smoking buddy in the cool, teasing Tayama, but Sasaki doesn’t realize he already knows her!
