Webtoon Spin-Offs of Record of Lodoss War, Sword Art Online, and 2 Other KADOKAWA Titles To Launch on WEBTOON

KADOKAWA titles Sword Art OnlineRecord of Lodoss War, The Familiar of Zero, and Slayers are set to receive webtoon adaptations that will be released exclusively through WEBTOON. Involved in the initiative are STUDIO WHITE, a new webcomic production company from WEBTOON Entertainment-owned LINE Digital Frontier, and REDICE STUDIO, whose members have worked on titles like Solo Leveling and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint.

The tabletop RPG-inspired fantasy series Record of Lodoss War, almost 40 years old now, will lead the way with a webcomic that, per creator Ryo Mizuno, will cover “an untold chapter of the war, one that has never appeared in the novels.” The spin-off, which had its original concept provided by Mizuno, will first debut in Korean beginning on May 9, with translations in English, Japanese, French, Traditional Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian to follow.

“I hope longtime fans will find something new here, and that newcomers will find it a welcoming door into the world of fantasy storytelling,” Mizuno said of the upcoming Record of Lodoss War webcomic, which you can get a glimpse of below.

It’s unknown when the other webcomic spin-offs from the collaboration will launch.

WEBTOON has previously added colorized and reformatted versions of manga like Fullmetal Alchemist and Clevatess. Last January, WEBTOON Entertainment announced that LINE Digital Frontier had made a strategic investment in Japanese manga and webtoon company No. 9 Inc., anticipating that the move would “boost WEBTOON Entertainment’s content pipeline in Japan, the company’s fastest-growing market.”
