Five new cast members have been revealed for the upcoming Red River TV anime series. The anime is scheduled to premiere in Japan in July 2026.
The latest cast members include:
- • Aya Uchida as Queen Nakia
- • Shoya Chiba as Zannanza Hattusili
- • Tomoaki Maeno as Ilbani
- • Koji Yusa as Urhi
- • Kosuke Toriumi as Prince Mattiwaza
They join a previously announced voice cast that stars Mirai Tachibana as Yuri Suzuki, Wataru Kato as Kail Mursili, and Hiroki Nanami as the narrator.
Kosuke Kobayashi (Waccha PriMagi!, The Master of Ragnarök & Blesser of Einherjar) is directing the anime series, with Yoriko Tomita (My Dress-Up Darling) as series composer and Kenji Fujisaki as character designer. Middle Eastern Culture Centre in Japan’s Kimiyoshi Matsumura and Daisuke Yoshida are credited with the historical research for the series. Tatsunoko Production is in charge of the animation production.
Chie Sonohara’s supernatural shojo manga series (known in Japanese as Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori) debuted in Shogakukan’s Shojo Comic magazine on January 5, 1995 and ended on June 5, 2002. Twenty-eight tankobon volumes were released in Japan.
VIZ Media licensed the Red River manga for English release and began releasing 3-in-1 omnibus volumes in October 2024. It describes the manga’s synopsis as:
Yuri, a pretty Japanese girl, is ecstatic after passing her college entrance exam and having her first kiss with her childhood friend-turned boyfriend. However, her luck soon changes. She starts to notice that water becomes agitated whenever she goes near it. One night, hands appear out of a puddle on the street and drag her into the water! Transported to an ancient village in the Middle East, she is then captured by armed troops and taken to the Queen’s palace for a human sacrifice.
